Suspended Sediment Concentration Profile in a <i>Typha Latifolia</i> Canopy

The transport of sediment in regions with vegetation plays an important role aquatic ecosystems and landform evolution river deltas. In this study, flow parameters suspended concentration (SSC) within emergent canopy real plant morphology (Typha latifolia) were measured a laboratory channel. T. latifolia is common marsh species multiple thin leaves emerging from tight bundle (culm) at the bed. observed equilibrium SSC profile differed significantly Rouse profile, classic model for over bare beds. vertical distribution was nearly uniform culm region canopy, decreased height upper distributed leaves. reflected vertically nonuniform turbulent diffusion, which arose morphology. A diffusivity based on cylinder arrays first validated tracer data then adapted to morphology, providing way systems. successfully used random displacement predict spatial canopy.
